QA Office Hours Episode 2
Since I started creating content for the QA manual and automation space, I get some questions asked very frequently so I figured I would create a recurring central place for me to answer them, during my office hours. I will try to do this at least once a month to start and more frequently as needed. You can email questions to thetestinglead@gmail.com just put “Office Hours” in the subject line. Now that it is introduced, let’s get started.
1. I have been applying for jobs for a month and have not heard back from any companies, what should I do?
Don’t get discouraged, getting a job is a numbers game. Also, don’t be intimidated or stressed because other people got a job faster than you. If you have a 10% chance of getting a job that means you need to apply to at least 10 jobs before you can realistically expect to hear back from one.
I would first analyze the current resume that you are sending to these companies when you are applying. Is it professional? Is it formatted correctly? I would search for typical resume and cover letter templates and make sure my current resume looks similar.
Next, I would 5x my applications. If you were applying to 1 job a day, make it 5 jobs a day. If I was applying to 5 make it 25. Use websites such as LinkedIn, Monster…
