I didn’t think I would ever write about this, but someone emailed me recently asking about how they should be dressed for their tech interview. They stated that they were advised to wear a t-shirt and shorts and that overdressing would give off the wrong appearance….

First impressions are critical in job interviews, whether they are in-person or virtual. Dressing appropriately not only demonstrates your professionalism but also boosts your confidence and sets the tone for the interview. Even if you are interviewing at a company that has a relaxed dress code, you should still be dressed up.

YOU DO NOT HAVE THE JOB YET. ONCE YOU HAVE THE JOB YOU CAN FOLLOW THEIR RELAXED DRESS CODE. Doing so prematurely can come off as cocky or obnoxious and flat out not being taken serious at all.
